Into the dark

I am a pretty rational person. I don’t get over-excited about things. My perspectives are pretty balanced. I’m a “wait and see” kind of guy. I’d have been one of the disciples in the boat watching Peter get out of the boat to walk to Jesus. I’d have sat there watching, curious as to what was going to happen.

But, I’m also the kind of person who pays attention to life in a general sense. I’m not a detail person, but a kind of generalist. My curiosity takes me to a wide array of subjects. Most folks will say, at some point in life, “If I had it to do over again, I’da been a doctor…” or a [fill in the blank]. When I say something like that, depending on my mood, I’ll say, “If I could do life over again, I’d have been a physicist.” Next week, I might say “molecular scientist,” and another time, an “astronomer.” I’ve even murmured that I wish I could have been a “mountain man” living in isolation deep in the mountains somewhere. (Part of that desire stems from an image of me in a cabin filled with books, having hours and hours to read and devour them all without distractions. A fantasy, I know.)

I’ve never gotten sucked into the myriad of conspiracy theories that have always sprung up around us over the years. In fact, for the most part, I’ve been pretty dismissive of virtually all of those conspiracy theories (such as the Kennedy assassination conspiracy which probably has some validity) or the many strange and often weird and at times, fantastic tales of ghost-like apparitions, aliens and abductions, and evil cabals that are seeking control of the world (or “have” control, per some folks). I have, for the most part–not always–been completely dismissive of this stuff.

However, that part of me that is curious about my world has allowed me, from time to time, to delve into matters that are beyond my experience and look a bit closer at some of the strange tales that today, frequent the digital world. In my younger days, I really did not have the time or motivation to satisfy my ordinary curiosity. While my curiosity was present, I was not motivated enough to explore a particular matter, particularly if my sense of reality told me that in all probability, the story was unlikely to be true. It’s easy to dismiss claims. It takes work to validate them. My life was too busy to chase down what I perceived, for the most part, to be “tall tales.”

But, I confess that now and then, I would take the time to do a little reading on a matter just to satisfy that itch of curiosity that always was just below the surface. So it was, that on a few subjects, I came to realize that there was more to the stories than was apparent and that the “tall tales” might have some substance to them. I would tuck those things away in my mind, content with the notion that one day I’d revisit the subject and look at it closer.

Now, in my later years, I have more time to look at things I passed up or merely glanced at with a few readings. And, the past few years, I have encountered even more “tall tales” that excite my curiosity. The internet is a realm of information-facts, fiction, lies and a jumble of distortions, and buried in plain sight. Some of it is truth (though it may not be the “truth” we want to read or hear). It is true, as was predicted so long ago in those ancient reams of writings called the Bible, that in the times of the end, there would be an abundance of information on the earth–knowledge. Today, we are witness to deluge of information. We are in the information age. Sorting through it is, to say the least, interesting. The hard part is distinguishing fact from fiction.

All that to say this: There are things happening today across the globe which excite my curiosity. It is more exciting to me because finally, today, one can chase much, if not most, of the information down on the web. It means reading articles, blogs, sometimes tweets (which I hate), books and watching videos. It also means having to sort through bios of people. It is difficult to evaluate the range of credibility of an individual without knowing something about them.

I go into such matters with a curiosity that wants to know (1) the evidence; (2) the basis/foundations; (3) the nature/stature of the witness; (4)the validity of the evidence and the witnesses; (5) the contradictions and/or the unification (nature, physics, odds, Bible, substantive literature/history).

In coming posts, I may be exploring “out loud” some of the things that have aroused my curiosity. I haven’t decided to do that, yet, i.e., “discuss” some of my explorations in upcoming posts. But, I’m definitely looking closer at some things that, years ago, I’d have dismissed as nonsensical. Today, I can’t be so dismissive for a number of reasons. One is that it is unwise. We are told to be wise. We all ought to be seeking to know truth.  We need to investigate some of the things out there that can seriously do us harm if we don’t know the truth about the matter.

For example, here’s a tidbit. There was a Russian satellite that covered North and South America. It was a fixed satellite, that is, this is “in place,” matching the earth’s approximate 1000 mph rotation speed. The company that made the satellite tracks it by radar. Imagine their shock when they observed 3 round objects, in formation, slowly approach the satellite. Soon after they passed, a 4th round object passed slowly and as it does, the satellite is seen to be breaking up. In a short time, the satellite is clearly in two pieces.

The observation was from a radar picture and while it is not possible to see what the UFO objects were, they were clearly under the control of someone (or “some thing”). They were not other satellites. And, the destruction of the satellite came almost immediately after the UFO’s passed. Clearly they fit the definition of UFO’s. But, are these aliens? Are these ships piloted by America under some “black”project? Why was the satellite destroyed? Is there something that is going to happen in America that those who controlled the UFO’s did not want anyone to be able to report? Is there a space war of some kind going on that we don’t know about? Are many, some, or most of the “alien ships” we are seeing actually giant, sophisticated holograms? Are the “aliens” beings created here on earth by an alien entity such as the alien being we call Satan?

There are literally hundreds of stories out there that are as “far out” as this one (and not all dealing with aliens or UFO’s). They raise questions that beg to be answered. They arouse curiosity. Some who hear the stories simply ignore them. Or, they do as I once did, they dismiss them as nonsense or too far out to even look at. Unfortunately, ignorance is not confined to those with low IQ’s and the stupid. There are a lot of very smart, intelligent people who are ignorant and who have and will continue to choose ignorance. I’ve decided I don’t want to remain ignorant. So, I’m determined to look behind the curtain and see whether there is an Oz back there, and if there is, who he/she/it really is and what motivates them. What is the goal? What is the agenda? Who is ultimately their “leader?”

We can’t afford to ignore a lot of things simply because they are too “fringe” or because the contradict long held beliefs. There is simply too much evidence out there, some of it very credible, which, if true, should give us great concern. If we don’t learn about some things, then we are setting ourselves up to become victims of hoaxes and deception on a level never before seen on the planet Earth.

For you, the reader, learn to look beyond your biases. Look past your declarations of belief about various things in life and explore conclusions made by others who have had some experiences and observations that are beyond your own. We learn from each other. Don’t be quick to accept someone’s conclusions or observations. But, don’t be quick to dismiss them, either. Instead, explore them. You may find that their experience and observations were valid, even though their conclusions were not valid, or are suspect. Or, you may find that their conclusions have the ring of truth and are probably true.

Explore. Open your mind to truth, perhaps to truth that contradicts your current perceptions and positions. We are, in biblical terms, in the End Times.
But, always guard against deception.
Don’t forget the story about Eve.
It is a story about deception, pure and simple.
James 1:5 is still a solid biblical principle.
